This year's Speaker Series will consist of three back to back presentations as follows:
Presentation #1: Pregnancy and Infant Loss: Navigating Grief

Session description:
Families who experience pregnancy and infant loss often feel a deep sense of loss and disorientation, and will look to professionals who care for them to provide guidance and comfort. However, many families report feeling isolated and stigmatized, searching for meaningful support. This session will invite participant to join the conversation about grief after pregnancy and infant loss to learn about the unique grief needs of families, how to connect with grieving families, and ways to recognize and care for your own grief needs.
Learning objectives:
1. Participants will increase their knowledge of grief theory, specifically how it presents when families experience pregnancy and infant loss
2. Participants will further develop their ability to provide care and support to grieving families
3. Participants will explore common biases and stigma that surround different types of pregnancy and infant loss
4. Participants will learn more about ways to reconcile their own grief needs with the demands of their clinical work with families
Presentation #2: Postpartum Hemorrhage and Hemorrhagic Shock: Denial is Delay

• Review the updates to the 2022 SOGC Postpartum Hemorrhage and Hemorrhagic Shock guideline
• Describe the strategies to implement changes in practice recommended in the new SOGC guideline
• Share one institution’s comprehensive protocol for prevention and management of postpartum hemorrhage
Presentation #3: Avoiding Legal Pitfalls with Fetal Health Surveillance

This talk provides a practical outline of strategies for all caregivers (nurse, midwife, physician) to use when they are required to review, assess, plan and document care associated with intrapartum fetal health surveillance. Reviews of many clinical cases, associated with litigation, identified approaches to avoid varied interpretations of events and to demonstrate caregivers are meeting the standard of care. Approaches to effective communication in emergencies, with patients and families and with colleagues are discussed to ensure shared decision making, clear messaging and effective flow of care.
